Bird watching and wild life

Mount Glorious is a bird watcher's paradise, with over 80 varieties of birds seen on the mountain.
You will be woken with the sound of birdsong, while on the verandah Australian King Parrots, crimson rosellas, bower birds, red-browed finches, sulphur crested cockatoos and kookaburras come to feed. In the surrounding bush you will hear, and perhaps even see, the shy cat bird and, of course, bush turkeys.

Here at Turkey's Nest we have sighted over 40 varieties of birds, and invite you to add your sightings to our list. We provide binoculars and bird identification books for bird-watching on site.

More birds can be seen at nearby Maiala National Park. Nearby Mt Nebo offers a different habitat, and therefore a different variety of birds and wildlife

Pademelons (small wallabies) are seen at Maiala National Park. Koalas are sometimes seen in the wet sclerophyll forest at the southern end of Mt Glorious.

Walks

At Turkey's Nest we have our own private rainforest walk. Take a walk past groves of palms and lichen-covered rocks, to the magnificent towering fig tree.

Walk outside on a clear night to see the stars and breathe the fresh mountain air.

For one short season (September - October) you will see the magic twinkling lights of fireflies in the forest.

Should you feel more energetic you can explore the walks of nearby D'Aguilar National Park. Walks range from 1.9km to 8km return. At Mount Glorious, the walks are through sub-tropical rainofrest. At nearby Mt Nebo you will walk through wet sclerophyll forest.

Walking maps are available from the D'Aguilar National Park Website.

Graham Radcliffe's Phoenix Sculpture Garden at 59 Fahey Rd features a range of sculptures by this local artist in a magnificent bush garden setting. Open Sundays, gold coin donation.
